5 Benefits of Boxing & Martial Arts for Kids

Posted by Kinsey Harris on

When it comes to developing discipline, fitness, flexibility, determination and self-motivation martial arts are among the best options. The earlier you start, the more conditioned your body will become through critical growth periods. Avoid heavy weights and lifts which compress the spine before 18 though as this will stunt proper growth according to many pediatricians. All said and done, it is a great idea to get children involved in boxing and martial arts from a young age and that it is equally as important to teach them the attitude to compliment such a path of healthy competition and respect for others.

5 Benefits of Boxing & Martial Arts for Kids

  1. Self Defense: - Martial Arts & Boxing will allow your children to be able to defend themselves if they ever need to. This can be an extremely valuable tool for your children to learn at an early age.
  2. Stress Relief - Boxing can be a great way to relieve stress. Kids can deal with a lot of emotions throughout their lifetime. Boxing will give them a  stress release and allow them to let out their stress in a positive way.
  3. Discipline - Discipline is key to excellence in martial arts and boxing. A disciplined student performs better not just in the class, but also outside. Martial arts are usually taught in a structured setting, where the students have to follow the rules of the school. When they are forced to adhere to the rules every day, they eventually fall into the routine and they become disciplined.
  4. Strength: - Boxing and Martial Arts can help increase overall strength. This can lead to increased bone growth, increased weight loss, and overall healthier being. The more muscles and strength your children have, the healthier they will be.
  5. Self Motivation - Boxing and Martial arts are very competitive sports. As your child learns new moves and progresses it gives them motivation to get better the next time or win the next competition. This instills self motivation in the ring as well as carrying on outside of the ring to other important aspects of life such as a career.
Obviously there are safety concerns in all martial arts, which is often the most significant “negative” for most parents. There are established safety measures for their protection though that will reduce the chance for injury. Make sure you learn how to use the proper protective gear beforehand to ensure your kids can have fun while staying protected!
